Deviation Actions
Today (well at least according to US time zones) we celebrate the bicentennial of Edgar Allan Poe, the famous American poet. He was born as Edgar Poe on January the 19th of 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. His middle name Allan was given to him by his foster family, who took him in, when he was a little child. As for the rest of his life's story, I would like to recommend you to read the encyclopedia entry Edgar Allan Poe and to have a look on the website of the Poe Museum, because they provide the relevant information in a far more elaborate style than I possibly could achieve.
Instead I prefer to offer you a small feature of deviations here on deviantART, which are related to Poe or his works.
Let's start with some illustrations picturing Poe himself:

If there is an animal related to Edgar Allan Poe, it surely is The Raven, depicted in the famous poem as haunting visitor. Several deviations chose to illustrate that poem.

Some deviations depicting other works by Poe:

… and I simply could not resist:
I hope, you've enjoyed this feature, in fact my very first news article.

Get Obducted by the creators of Myst and Riven
:new: Update December 17th
Even though the Kickstarter funding period is closed, you can still help Cyan to reach the second stretch goal "One additional world and Road Trip mode". And the best is, that by donating money you can still get some of the rewards (up to the $250 reward level) that they've offered via Kickstarter before. Read more about how to support them and about the rewards they offer for your donation on their website www.obductiongame.com under the Tab "Get Obduction".
I've also added some artworks from a forum thread that I've created in the ThumbShare forum.
End of update...

Santa is coming...
Happy Santa's Day to all of you!
Today, on the 6th of December we celebrate Santa Claus' Day in Germany. When my brother and I were children, we would put a pair of big shoes outside of our bedrooms and the following morning they had gotten magically filled with sweets and treats, supposedly from Sankt Nikolaus, better knwon in English as Santa Claus. It was also the day, when we would find an Advent's calendar hanging around (or later on with small bags on a rope), also filled with sweet and nice stuff. From then on until Christmas Eve, the 24th of December, when we like many Germans celebrate the lighting of the Christmas tree and the gift
Yay Contest Winners
This is a horribly overdue journal entry. In May I donated a journal feature of the winners of the Give us a YAY! emoticon contest. I'm afraid, that I was again horribly procrastinating and haven't featured the winners yet. I wanted to promote other contests, but sometimes I back off from writing a whole journal entry in English. I'm really sorry for the delay! :ashamed:
As I got aware today, that BurgerBunny (https://www.deviantart.com/burgerbunny) is going to leave dA, I finally managed to overcome my procrastination and write this journal entry. I will flesh it out further, after I've done my weekend shopping.
Now to the winners...
There were two categories in the Give us
Createbyweek celebrates its Centenary
Do you know createbyweek (https://www.deviantart.com/createbyweek)? It was founded by pendlestock (https://www.deviantart.com/pendlestock) and UnicornReality (https://www.deviantart.com/unicornreality) and it is dedicated to offering you a weekly challenge open to all deviants. You don't have to be member of createbyweek (https://www.deviantart.com/createbyweek), in fact, there is no real membership. Each Sunday evening the club will present a different stock photo. A week is given to manipulate, draw or create your image, after which it goes to a public poll. The winner receives journal features and bragging rights. createbyweek (https://www.deviantart.com/createbyweek) is no contest, it is a challenge aimed to bring about fun and joy.
#createbyweek (https://www.deviantart.com/createbyweek) just celebrated their 100th week, and are holding a special Centenary
